  • Judith Geher (b.1970) is a Toronto-based artist whose figurative paintings reconcile the polished ideals of fashion and advertising with the raw intimacy of self-expression. Drawing inspiration from found imagery, she transforms faces and figures into subjective narratives—layering paint, gesture, and memory into luminous portraits. Her work navigates a tension between longing for beauty and resisting its constraints, revealing the complexity of identity in a media-saturated world.

Trained in architecture at the University of Toronto, Geher brings a structural awareness to her painting, balancing precise form with expressive surfaces. Through an iterative process of building, erasing, and re-working, her portraits hold both presence and absence, suggesting the unspoken spaces of self-representation—akin to the fleeting honesty of a selfie.

Geher has presented solo exhibitions at Parts Gallery (Toronto) and Herringer Kiss Gallery (Calgary), and her work has been featured in numerous group shows including 401 Richmond (Toronto), Gladstone Hotel (Toronto), and the Toronto International Art Fair with Parts Gallery. She currently lives and works in Toronto.
