• Lawrence Morton is a Toronto colourfield artist whose intuitive style and palette were highly influenced by his residency at the prestigious Chateau d’Orquevaux in northeastern France a few years back.

In these turbo-charged times of instant gratification, Morton’s calming canvases force us to step back, slow down, and enjoy a moment of quiet reflection and contemplation.

Using color as his subject matter, Morton doesn’t rely on dramatic scenes, lines or shapes to grab our attention. Instead, his paintings are like visual poems, featuring soft gradations of colour and pristine surfaces that stimulate the senses, touch the heart, and put the mind to rest. As they shift from darkness to light, what you see isn’t as important as how they make you feel.

  • Everything You Are original Canadian art by Lawrence Morton

With their evocative hues ranging from sky blues to earthy browns, some of the pieces resemble imaginary landscapes while others are harder to situate. Like Mark Rothko, his artistic forbearer, Morton’s paintings contain a certain vastness and ambiguity that transcends time and space, taking us on a journey of introspection and self-discovery to places we’ve never been before.
