SHOW: Feb 21st - Mar 7th

She – the Muse brings together three artists whose work dissolves the old divide between the artist and her subject.

Vikki Drummond’s surreal, symbolic figures, Maryline Lemaitre’s layered dreamer figures, and Judith Geher’s iconic and muse-like portraiture all speak to an inner dialogue where the feminine is both the observer and the observed, the dreamer and the dream.

Together, their paintings trace a visual journey of self-invention - from bold strokes of colour and texture to whispered layers of emotion - offering a world where the muse no longer waits to be seen; she sees herself.

Judith Geher

This body of work grows out of my long-standing fascination with fashion and retail imagery, images that promise confidence, beauty, and belonging, yet often feel strangely impersonal. I return to these sources repeatedly, not to critique them outright, but to sit with their contradictions. The figures are built slowly through layered marks and revisions. I allow parts of the image to dissolve or remain unresolved, trusting that what is left unfinished can feel more honest than what is perfected. In this way, the paintings function as indirect self-portraits, reflecting how identity is shaped through looking, longing, and resistance. Paint is central to this process. Its physicality interrupts the smoothness of the original image and introduces vulnerability, doubt, and touch. What emerges are figures that feel both present and guarded, familiar yet elusive, held in a quiet space between visibility and self-protection.

Vikki Drummond

Vikki is a feral creature who finds our human world absurd. Her practice is less about the "why" and more about a language in which she is able to process our existence. As a whole, her work is about a quest for a light heart and an ongoing conversation with herself about what it means to be truly free. Being a fellow human, she believes she mirrors the collective consciousness.

In this series "Everything is One thing" she addresses longing, belonging and notions of home. She feels that we have forgotten our sense of connection on many levels...that we have lost our way - including with nature. Vikki attempts to blur the lines between humans and the natural world. She uses faerie tales and storytelling to emphasize the increasingly farcical tone of our society. There is often a darkness entwined with the light within each composition - allowing the viewer to access what they are ready to receive.

Maryline Lemaitre

SHE is a journey through the stages of becoming, from the raw innocence of childhood to the confident clarity of womanhood. Each painting marks a threshold, a shift, a new layer of identity.

Childhood as instinct and lightness: climbing trees, building forest shelters, weaving flower crowns, trusting everything…
The age of confusion: a series of small portraits capturing the long storm of adolescence, or however long confusion lasts! Young women with deer antlers, remnants of childhood, and the first fragile outlines of a protective shell. A moment of peace and serenity in harmony with one’s own nature and nature.
Becoming more than oneself: Audrey Hepburn and Frida Kahlo, icons of resilience. The stage of life one chooses to become the best, boldest version of oneself. A story of growing into one’s own light.

Each painting marks a threshold, a shift, a new layer of identity.
